Staying a Trusted Advisor in the Age of AI: How to Be the Human in the Loop

Jaime Sens · R&D Intelligence Specialist, Sherwin-Williams

This session explores practical ways CI practitioners can integrate AI into their daily workflows while maintaining their role as trusted strategic partners. It begins with the fundamentals: asking the right questions, recognizing what is left unsaid, and using those insights to guide stronger conversations and analysis. At times this means embracing challenges like "Can you do this?" or "Prove it," creating opportunities to demonstrate the unique value of CI expertise. Through real-world examples, attendees will see how trust is built — often starting without technology, sometimes involving friction, but consistently leading to stronger stakeholder relationships. By establishing that trust, practitioners can work alongside AI rather than competing with it for attention or resources.

Case Study: Using GenAI in CI to Gain Scalability in Strategic Insights

Jay Nakagawa · Director, Competitive Intelligence, Dell Technologies · Co-Executive Director, SAICI

Everyone is talking about AI. Far fewer organizations are successfully implementing it. Through real-world before-and-after examples, we explore how organizations move from experimentation to measurable business outcomes — and the challenges they encounter along the way. Attendees will get an inside look at how to identify high-value use cases, align AI initiatives with business objectives, build the technical foundation for scale, and overcome the human and organizational barriers that often derail transformation. Jay shares lessons learned, unexpected obstacles, and practical advice for turning AI investments into lasting competitive advantage.

What I Learned Downloading a Decade of CI

Alina Sharon-Green · Competitive & Market Intelligence Specialist, ASG Competitive

Alina spent over a decade doing competitive intelligence. Over the past year she has been obsessed with one question: how much of what she does can she actually hand to AI? So she tried — working through almost every stage of CI (framing, planning, collection, analysis, synthesis, delivery) and building AI into each one. Not chatbots and one-off prompts, but real tools, skills, and instructions, backed by context: the tacit knowledge that usually lives only in an analyst's head. This is the honest story of that journey — what worked surprisingly well, what broke, and where AI quietly produced confident nonsense only an experienced analyst would catch. You'll leave with a clearer sense of what's worth automating, what to keep human, and where to start.

Breakout Session: Defending Your CI Skills in the Age of AI

Moderators: TBD

We've spent several hours focused on AI in CI today. The takeaway: while AI acts as a powerful force-multiplier, it is our human capabilities — judgment, critical thinking, strategic planning — that cannot be augmented by AI. In this session we break into groups to share how AI has changed our roles, discuss the need for a Human-in-the-Loop (HITL), and exchange ideas for defending our work and our roles in a time when corporations are eager to replace bodies with bots. Groups then share their key take-aways with the wider audience.
